    What you Need to Know from Paris Games Week

    Paris Games Week was held by Sony this week. The event is a platform for the gaming corporation to make new announcements and introduce now games to fans all over the world. There were lots of new announcements, certainly – but they were all rather vague. Did we learn a lot about what is actually going to be happening? No, not really… but here is what we did find out:

    • Microsoft is going to be pushing virtual reality technology going forward. Megalith, an otherwise fairly standard shooting game, is going to be released for PSVR sometime in 2018.
    • The Hong Kong Massacre will be released for PS4 in 2018. We don’t have many details of this game, but it looks to be similar to Hotline Miami.
    • Concrete Genie is coming out next year as well. It has a slightly different angle and is essentially an adventure game, featuring a teenager living in a world of monsters.

  • What is the New Game Pyre?

    You may or may not believe it, but Pyre is actually, at its core, a sports game. It features games called rites, a kind of six player game that feels like a cross between various sports. It requires a lot of skill and quick thinking, making it an interesting new option for people who love their fantasy football and sports games. The rites become more difficult and challenging as the game progresses.

    Pyre is more than a simple and two-dimensional sports game as well, though. It’s a game that is imaginative, inventive and full of interesting imagery. You will be able to explore the world in full as you travel between rites, absorbing yourself in the folklore and learning more about the history. You will also find out more about the characters, especially the ones that play in rites. They all have their own stories for you to investigate further.

    Virtual reality has actually been around for some time, but it’s only really just beginning to take off. If you are interested in learning more about virtual reality, then read on:

    • Virtual reality is created through the use of computer technology producing realistic images within an artificial world. It allows the user to feel as though they are really there.
    • This kind of technology is still in its infancy in the grand scheme of things, but it is growing in popularity all the time.
    • This has enormous potential for gamers, allowing them to feel much more a part of the world of the game that they are playing in.
    • Virtual reality is usually experienced through the use of a headset, which will take the user into a virtual world that feels incredibly realistic.

    Virtual reality is going to be the next big thing in gaming and many game developers are now making use of it.

  • Facebook Instant Games on Messenger

    Facebook Instant Games on Messenger

    Facebook has announced that users will now be able to play games using Facebook messenger. They will be able to play against one another within the Facebook chat app, as long as they are in one of the 30 countries where this feature is going to be made possible. The UK is included, so people across Britain will now be able to play games just by opening a conversation with their competitor. A new icon will show up, allowing them to select a game to play. The feature will also be available on the Facebook and messenger websites, as well as in the app.

    Users will be able to choose from a variety of games to play, including:

    • Space Invaders and Pac-Man. These classic games will give users the chance to enjoy some nostalgia and play their friends in arcade-style games.
    • Arkanoid. A brick-breaking game also reminiscent of typical arcade games, that has had some very good reviews for its controls.
    • Wordalot. One for the puzzle enthusiasts, this plays on elements of Scrabble and the traditional crossword.

    You will be able to chat to your friends whilst you play, within the game. You will be able to see your friends’ scores so that you are able to find new people to play with and challenge your skills.

    However, there are still some limitations. The feature will only be available to iOS and Android users with the latest operating systems at this moment in time, and only within the 30 countries where it is being rolled out. Facebook have already hinted that they predict it will be a success though, and they envisage expanding the platform further in the future.

  • Ark: Survival of the Fittest

    If you are looking for a completely crazy free-for-all game that’s got a heavy online multiplayer element to it, then ARK: Survival of the Fittest is the game for you!

    The game is currently distributed free due to it being an early release; players wanted more after the first game. This spin off game is set in a Multiplayer Online Survival Arena (MOSA) where as many as 72 players can play together in one large procedurallly generated environment, where they will battle for survival in a harsh, changing environment packed with deadly creatures, “Evolution Events,” and other players; the goal of the game is to  eliminate all other survivors before they can eliminate you.

    Because it’s an early release the best is yet to come! There are many more features currently planned, including content additions and new systems.
