    Super Mario Run Now Available on Android

    At least, Super Mario Run is now available to be downloaded by Android users with tablets and phones using at least version 4.2 of the Android software. Fans of the game will be relieved to finally be able to get their hands on it after a long wait, as the game was originally released for iOS back in September.

    Super Mario Run is the first version of the game to be developed for smartphones and it allows users to control the character’s jumps and hops by using different keys. It has two additional modes, Kingdom Builder and Toad Rally, which are new yet also familiar at the same time.

    The game is free for Android and iOS users to download from the Play and App stores. However, users will be given limited features within the game modes until they pay a one-off fee. They will have full access after this and will not be asked to pay another fee again.

    • Virtual reality is usually experienced through the use of a headset, which will take the user into a virtual world that feels incredibly realistic.

    Facebook Instant Games on Messenger

    Facebook has announced that users will now be able to play games using Facebook messenger. They will be able to play against one another within the Facebook chat app, as long as they are in one of the 30 countries where this feature is going to be made possible. The UK is included, so people across Britain will now be able to play games just by opening a conversation with their competitor. A new icon will show up, allowing them to select a game to play. The feature will also be available on the Facebook and messenger websites, as well as in the app.

    Users will be able to choose from a variety of games to play, including:

    • Space Invaders and Pac-Man. These classic games will give users the chance to enjoy some nostalgia and play their friends in arcade-style games.
    • Arkanoid. A brick-breaking game also reminiscent of typical arcade games, that has had some very good reviews for its controls.
    • Wordalot. One for the puzzle enthusiasts, this plays on elements of Scrabble and the traditional crossword.

    You will be able to chat to your friends whilst you play, within the game. You will be able to see your friends’ scores so that you are able to find new people to play with and challenge your skills.

    However, there are still some limitations. The feature will only be available to iOS and Android users with the latest operating systems at this moment in time, and only within the 30 countries where it is being rolled out. Facebook have already hinted that they predict it will be a success though, and they envisage expanding the platform further in the future.

  • The Resurgence of the Gameboy

    Quite often in life, vintage items will come back into fashion. Whilst this is rarely the case with gaming – technology moves on and so much of it will age quite quickly – this has been happening in recent months with the Gameboy from Nintendo. People are beginning to dig out their old devices and play their old games; it really is a blast from the past.

    Much of this is to do with the release of Pokémon Go. Whilst the game has been released for smartphone devices, it has served to make Pokémon in general popular once again. People are looking back to their old games as there is a renewed interest in the subject matter.

    Interestingly, Pokémon games for the Gameboy have risen astronomically in price. There is now a limited number of these games available, so the ones that still work can be worth quite a lot of money. If you have any that you no longer use, this could be the time to sell them!

    Gameboys in general have seen a rise in popularity as people begin to talk about them again. Try getting yours out from the back of the cupboard and see if it still has any appeal for you in this age of modern gaming.

  • Ark: Survival of the Fittest

    If you are looking for a completely crazy free-for-all game that’s got a heavy online multiplayer element to it, then ARK: Survival of the Fittest is the game for you!

    The game is currently distributed free due to it being an early release; players wanted more after the first game. This spin off game is set in a Multiplayer Online Survival Arena (MOSA) where as many as 72 players can play together in one large procedurallly generated environment, where they will battle for survival in a harsh, changing environment packed with deadly creatures, “Evolution Events,” and other players; the goal of the game is to  eliminate all other survivors before they can eliminate you.

    Because it’s an early release the best is yet to come! There are many more features currently planned, including content additions and new systems.
